The Intro - The rising stars of Victorian Football (Soccer)

Well, as this is the first entry, its only to be expected (or at least hoped) that its only going to get better from here on in. We shall see?

Why this blog?

Well, as someone that walks around attending grassroots Victorian football (soccer) matches with a professional looking video camera, I get to not only see a lot of matches, (over and over if I want to)... I also get to hear a lot of people's stories.

Usually its about whether they can obtain the video footage for their own purposes, (which I'll expand upon later as this blog progresses)... and whether or not I can do them a special favour and make a DVD for them?

Mmmm... special favours? Wouldn't it be amazing that I was offered "special favours" in return? But no, usually it's me that's expected to provide them pretty-much everything, for... exactly nothing in return...

But that's being unfair... I do get offered money. $5 or as much as $50 is common. It's understandable why the offer will go as high as $50... and that's because they can pay about $40 for the latest Hollywood blockbuster DVD and they reason that going $10 higher than that is a pretty amazing offer on their part! Mmmm... I hadn't intended raving about this in the first blog.

OK, I'll stop with that subject for the moment. (i'll come back to it for sure). Its time to set some basic ground rules... for me... firstly, because I know people (and they therefore know me), I'll attempt to keep specific names out of this. An extension of that ground rule will be that I only mention names in a positive light (or at least) in a reasonable manner. And yes, that's a ground rule I will hopefully respect. I have manners. I am proud that I do have them. I will attempt to be respectful. I will also try to be fair... (fair and reasonable). I will self-criticise and accept that there will be occassions when I am wrong. (Mmmm... see how far that goes?). I will write this blog with a sense of humour which will hopefully come across.

The DIRT? I will endevour to talk about the DIRT without using any names. I cant totally guarantee that people wont be able to figure out who I am talking about... after all, my topic is local grassroots victorian football (soccer), with a major emphasis on the "rising hopefulls" and by that I mean, the young players that are attempting to pursue a career as professional footballers, but haven't made it yet. That will generally be the topic. (But not always)

And the DIRT? Well, considering the game is surrounded by crazy parents and corrupt club officials and inept football organisers, there should be plenty to sprinkle around.

Will there be DIRT on the players? Honestly, there usually isn't any. They are too busy playing to get involved in all the intrigue. So.... really, this blog will focus on the "scene" surrounding these budding players. Most will be annecdotal... and really, at times, quite comical... simply because so many things involved with this Victorian Football Scene are contradictory and filled with nonsense.

A couple of future Blog Headings spring to mind.

"The boy in the fancy boots"

"Dont call off-side, we need to score!"

"Countless tales of Soccer Mums and Football Dads"

"The time I was threatened with a tax audit to convince me to stop filming an U15's match"

But I've given the plot away to that one.

And of course, my old favorite, the "do me a special favour, just for me, make me a DVD because my son is worth it, he will be the next star, you just wait and see".

Plus of course there are questionsand concerns about privacy laws while filming, questions as to whether I am a scout or not, and lots lots more.

OK... considering this is my first attempt at a blog, dont all rush in and discover it. But if you do, you may comment as you wish. Feel free to criticise. I will attempt to keep this blog "censor-free", however I wont abide with racist or sexist remarks that are just some idiot performing a mindless chant. That said, I probably also wont delete them, because quite honestly, those statements say more about your character than I ever could.

Anyway.. whatever... till the next version. I hope to ramble less and less as time goes on.
